
Ryan E. Long Principal
Professional Experience.
Mr. Long specializes in corporate, intellectual property, and litigation matters. Clients rely on Mr. Long's expertise in negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including operating and licensing agreements. Mr. Long's clients also call upon him to protect and license their trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. While Mr. Long is often able to help his clients amicably resolve disputes before they end up in court, he is also a expert litigator who can vindicate his clients' rights in court, at both the trial and appellate levels, when needed. Prior to starting this firm, Mr. Long was a lawyer with the Manhattan office of Milberg L.L.P. (f/k/a Milberg, Weiss, Bershad, Hynes & Lerach L.L.P.), among others, where he litigated high profile securities, antitrust, and intellectual property class actions on behalf of consumers and businesses.

His clients have included Colombian based foreign apparel manufacturers, audio-visual distribution companies, hamburger franchises, Grammy® award winning recording artists, award winning members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America® ("CFDA"), and trucking companies.

- Corporate:
- Negotiated a favorable five year commercial lease on behalf of a CFDA member who was the 2005 winner of the Ecco Domani® Fashion Foundation award and whose clients include Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Christina Ricci;
- Counsel to a franchisee of Elevation Burger®, including the drafting and negotiation of the franchisee's operating agreement;
- Counsel to Beauty Stat, L.L.C., an online beauty company, including successfully resolving a dispute with a member so as to avoid litigation; and
- Advised Industrias Integratas, a Colombian based apparel manufacturer, concerning its rights and remedies under a lucrative brokerage agreement.
- Intellectual property:
- Prosecuting a trademark application for a Los Angeles based hamburger chain that won GQ Magazine's best hamburger of the year in 2010;
- Counseling Tachyon Films, L.L.C., on the protection, development, and marketing of their screenplay, Mahjong, which has garnered the interest of Mr. Curtis Jackson (p/k/a "50 Cent"), among others;
- Registered several trademarks for Donald Deal, Inc., a 20-year old CFDA fashion house whose clients include Lisa Kurdow, Barbara Walters, and Claudia Schiffer;
- Successfully prosecuted several trademarks for The New Cruelty, L.L.C., a creative production concern whose clients include Austin Martin, Elvis Costello, and Citi;
- Negotiated a favorable co-existence agreement with a federal trademark owner on behalf of New Magazine, now published by The Jersey City Independent; and
- Negotiated and drafted an option agreement on behalf of investors who sought to option the rights to Jackie Cochran: Pilot in the Fast Lane.
- Litigation:
- Representing a Santa Monica based real estate investment company in six figure breach of promissory note litigation in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Suffolk, against one of the company's borrowers in connection with real estate in The Hamptons;
- Representing a prominent technology executive in multimillion dollar construction litigation in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Westchester, against the executive's neighbor and the neighbor's construction company;
- Represented a Grammy® award winning Island Def Jam recording artist in a precedent setting appeal concerning contract interpretation in the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. Chrisette Michele Payne v. Douglas Ellison, et. al., 2010 WL 5157309 (1st Dep't 2010);
- Negotiated a favorable confidential settlement on behalf of a former executive of the French giant Carrefour Group against a publicly traded Chinese company for breach of employment agreement and violation of federal immigration law;
- Obtained the voluntary dismissal of a ten million dollar personal injury complaint on behalf of Midwest Carriers, L.L.C., a Minnesota trucking company, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Travis v. Midwest Carriers, L.L.C., Docket No. 10-CV-000686;
- Obtained a favorable six figure confidential settlement on behalf of Mr. Ramble Jon Krohn (p/k/a "RJD2"), a former XL Recordings artist who is responsible for the theme music to HBO's Madmen, in copyright royalty arbitration;
- Obtained the dismissal of a breach of contract complaint for Victory Audio Video Services, Inc. (d/b/a "Victory Multimedia"), a Los Angeles audio-visual distribution company, in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York. Drummond Smith v. - Represented Kentucky real estate purchasers in an antitrust class action against real estate companies, including preparation of plaintiffs' successful opposition to defendants' motion to dismiss. Casey William Hyland, et. al., v. Homeservices of America, Inc., et. al., 2007 WL 1959160 (W.D. Ky. June 28, 2007);
- Represented purchasers of inflated technology related stocks in an antitrust class action against the underwriters, including filing of the opposition to defendants' petition for a writ of certiorari to the Supreme Court of the United States.
